Adolescence is the process or period of growth between childhood and maturity. A prominent Canadian evangelical scholar pictures Canadian evangelicals as adolescent- full of energy and potential yet still striving for maturity. In this work, Bill Taylor applies this metaphor to the Evangelical Free Church of Canada, tracing their development from a newborn denomination to an entity poised on the brink of adulthood. Taylor highlights the typical adolescent challenges (such as identity and direction) that the EFCC has striven to navigate on its journey to maturity. He considers the nature of evangelicalism in Canada, the issues facing Canadian evangelicals, and the EFCC's place among them. In this respect, Taylor's work should highlight issues of interest for both Evangelical Free as well as other evangelical church leaders.

Bill Taylor has enjoyed a long relationship with the Evangelical Free Church of Canada. After graduating from Briercrest College with a Bachelor of Religions Education, Bill and his wife, Deb, were actively involved in Saskatoon EFC church from 1983-1987. After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a BA in History and Philosophy and from Wilfred Laurier University with an MA in History, Bill pursued PhD studies in History at the University of Toronto before returning to Saskatoon and serving as Senior Pastor of Saskatoon EFC from 1993-1999. Taylor continued PhD studies at the University of Saskatchewan and in 1999 moved to Edmonton to become District Superintendent of the Alberta Parkland District of the Evangelical Free Church of Canada. He currently lives in Edmonton with his wife, Deb, and daughters Karissa and Janna.
