A History of St. Mark’s (Cannifton) United Church

Faith, fellowship, food and fun! These underlying themes helped form the history of St. Mark’s United Church and showed in the congregational support given during the production of the book. This was heard in the stories from the people who attended the former churches making up St. Mark’s (Bethany, Cannifton, Carmel, Centre Street and Gilead) as well as from those presently going to the amalgamated church. The editor also discovered these themes as he read the meager data that existed on those founding Methodist and Presbyterian churches. Not all elements appear in all instances but in its own unique way each has helped in the creation of St. Mark’s.

About the Editor:
Wib Brown is a theological student addicted to lifelong learning. Born eighty years ago, he spent thirty-five years in elementary school education as a principal and teacher. In this time—but mainly during the past twenty-three years of retirement—he has accumulated eight degrees, five of which are postgraduate.
His interests largely center around the church, due to his having worked at various levels in the United Church of Canada. As well, he is the chair of a local cemetery board. When he introduces himself as a lay worship leader from the pulpit, he describes himself as a scholar, teacher and preacher.
