The date is September 1, 1939. Nazi Germany invades Poland from the west. This attack ignites World War Two. Ten-year-old Halinka and her family, living in Eastern Poland, are far away from the troubles. But wait! Are they really safe?

Based on true accounts of one Polish family’s experiences during the first year of the Second World War, it is a story of bravery, family love, endurance and a determination to survive.
“Linda Blain has poignantly brought to life both the fears and the bravery of her mother’s childhood experiences and the strength imparted by faith in God when the senseless greed of war foisted these tests even on young children. Written so children can identify with young Halinka, parents too will find themselves drawn into the story.”
~Ruth Smith Meyer
Author of Not Easily Broken, Not Far From the Tree and Tyson’s Sad Bad Day
