Subtitle: Christian Cartoons

While it brings me pleasure to see my cartoons make people laugh, I would be disappointed if that is all they accomplished. Because a lot of truth is spoken in jest, I hope that some cartoons would speak honestly about the ironic way in which we relate to each other within the church or towards those in the world around us. Of course, it is easy to draw cartoons about the various trends and fads which come through our churches. I often hear people laugh saying, "That's soooo true!" As someone who has been actively involved for the past twenty in various renewal movements, I want to draw attention to some of the more laughable ways in which we "play in the Spirit." Not only is it good to be able to laugh at ourselves and agree with our critics where they have been right all along, but it is important that we make adjustments in our practices so we can effectively bring in the harvest at hand.
Cartoonist Bill Mauldin received the Legion of Merit during the Second World War for strengthening the morale of troops with his Willie and Joe cartoons. This is what I want my work to do. It would please me greatly to learn that one of my cartoons was used to strengthen the morale of someone who is serving on the front lines of ministry today.
